The world a dance festival

From 14 till 19 June 2011, Burgum will be the centre of the (dancing) world, because this is where the Board of the International Dance Festival Burgum is organising the grand dance festival for the 11th time.
After positive deliberation with the Board of the ‘Iepenloftspul’ (annually returning theatre in the open air in villages in Friesland), the management of the Restaurant and Party centre ‘De Pleats’ and the Cultural Commission, the ‘Iepenlofttéater’ was chosen as the central location. The ‘Iepenlofttéater’ is situated in a beautiful location, surrounded by trees giving it a charming atmosphere where the dancers will light up and radiate by twilight.
Colourful and spectacular dance-groups from around the world will give various dazzling performances from their own cultures. These performances will not only take place in the ‘Iepenlofttéater’, but also on different stages at different times in and around Burgum. This way, the Frisian culture will connect with other cultures of the world through the dance stages. The visitors of this special six-day event will admire the various dance-groups and there are still some surprises in store.
However, there will also be time for reflection and meditation through quiet and modest performances, which may be held in a centuries-old church or a historically significant location.
Our motto, the World a Dance Festival, will be taken in by June 2011 when we will carry out the message of interwoven cultures to everyone who wants to experience Friesland in a different way.
